Donate

The wellbeing of this family of children is sustained solely through the donations of caring people like you, from all over the world. We do not receive any government funding anywhere in the world.

(The government of Kenya regulates and inspects orphanages, and Eating Stone must continuously meet local standards to continue operating, but the government does not contribute in any way financially.)

100% of your donation will go towards food, shelter and education.

This page has instructions for Canadian, American, Australian, and UK donors.

If you live in another country, or wish to make a non-monetary donation (e.g., goods, services, or time), please use our contact page or email us.

Canadian donors

Eating Stone is supported by the Canadian registered charity ANSO Collectives & Education Support Society (831785720RR0001), which enables Canadian taxpayers to make tax-deductible donations.

In addition to supporting Eating Stone in Kenya, ANSO works with local communities in Ethiopia to provide loans for micro businesses, support for students and education and to provide animals to assist families whose livestock has become depleted. ANSO believes that the best way to help the disadvantaged and most vulnerable is by working with them to help them reach their fullest potential, a sentiment that is strongly aligned with Eating Stone’s values.

We ask Canadian donors to use ATB Cares (who will add 15% to your donation, up to their matching limit) or Canada Helps. We do this because these organizations:

  • absorb administrative costs so your donation goes towards food, shelter and education at Eating Stone
  • consolidate payments and absorb overheads that would too burdensome for a small organization such as Eating Stone
  • convert your donation to Kenyan shillings before making their monthly bank transfer, so the children’s home and school will receive much more of your money than if the currency conversion was done by a Kenyan bank
  • provide a level of governance (including an audit trail) that provides assurance to the Eating Stone board of directors and donors.

Both organizations accept major credit cards and Paypal, both let you make a one-time donation, and Canada Helps also has options for setting up monthly donations or donating securities.

The reasons are explained in more depth in the ATB Cares FAQ, but in short:

  • Benevity is the online donation processing platform used by ATB Cares
  • The Canadian Online Giving Foundation is the donor-advised fund partner used by ATB Cares to pool donations and save charities the time and cost of issuing individual receipts themselves, so that they can apply more of your donation directly to their social mission.
